Plone is an open source web content management system. Each year, a conference is held, somewhere around the world as an opportunity to network, train, learn and share ideas with other like-minded Plone users and developers. Previous conferences have been held in places such as Brazil, Budapest and San Francisco. Netsight, a Bristol-based web development agency, using Plone, hosted the conference and approached me to design a simple logo to sit on the conference website.
Previous conferences had used an icon of a bridge in the host-city, and it seemed fitting to carry the theme through, especially with Bristol having such an iconic landmark.
Whilst endeavouring to use the iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge, myself and the client were keen not to make it look like a logo for a Bristol tourist company. The logo needed to be clean, simple and technical to represent the nature of the conference’s content.
The resulting logo saw the complex suspension bridge image simplified right down, to show clean lines and simple structure. Simple dots were added to one side of the icon, firstly to represent lights on the bridge itself, and secondly to link with the dots in the Plone identity..
