New brand identity for freelance marketing business


The brief

Clarke Creatives is the freelance marketing business of ex-children’s magician, now turned marketer, Mike Clarke. Mike got in touch after being recommended to me by one of his friends I'd already done some website design for.

Mike wanted an identity for the business that would communicate in a clear and compelling way to his target audience – start-ups and SMEs. The aim, to save businesses time and money, by marketing differently, but more importantly, marketing well.

The design

After meeting Mike face to face to discuss his needs, I produced four options, of which this route was the second. The concept was to use standard and stencil versions of a clean, classic font, AG Buch, in order to communicate the creative nature of the marketing Mike was offering. 

The result

The final logo uses a dark grey and teal colour palette. The teal colour is introduced in the second word of the logotype, in alternating sections of the stencil font.

I then designed business cards and a letterhead for the business. The idea behind the business card was to highlight marketing and the difference that Mike would make to businesses. I used colour in a similar style to the way the letterforms in the word ‘Creatives’ was split.

The final letterhead was built in Apple Pages as a digital file, while the business card was supplied as print-ready pdfs for digital print.

I was initially skeptical about whether a ‘graphics guy’ would be able to come up with something to visually communicate what my company is about. 

I’ll hold my hands up and admit I was wrong to be skeptical! The branding Christian recently did for Clarke Creatives is superb. Quick responses, prompt delivery of the artwork, expert designs (in all the formats I might ever want).
